ShowMeTheRental.com

Your data, in plain English

ShowMeTheRental (SMTR) runs the rental process for property managers. Here is exactly what we keep, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

  • Contact details: your name, phone, and email, so the property manager's automated assistant can reach you.
  • Screening answers: what you tell us about income, occupants, pets, and rental history, used only to check you against the property's published criteria.
  • Documents you upload: like a photo ID or pay stubs, stored encrypted and shared only with the property manager for the home you applied to.
  • Messages: the conversation between you and the automated assistant, kept so there is a record of what was said and decided.

What we deliberately do not keep

  • No Social Security numbers. If a credit check is run, you enter your details directly with the screening bureau (TransUnion SmartMove). SMTR never sees or stores your SSN.
  • No credit reports. Reports go from the bureau to the property manager. SMTR never orders, receives, or reads them.
  • No selfies or ID images from identity verification. A specialist service runs the check and we store only whether it passed.
  • No card numbers. Payments run entirely through Stripe.

Who sees your data

The property manager for the home you inquired about, and no other property manager, unless you explicitly opt into the renter profile and matching, which you can leave with one tap at any time. We never sell your data.

Fairness, on the record

Screening decisions use only objective criteria (income, credit, occupancy, pets, rental history), published up front. Every automated decision is written to a permanent audit log, which is why some records must be retained for up to 7 years even after a deletion request (Fair Housing recordkeeping).

See your data or ask us to delete it

You can view what SMTR holds and request deletion at any time. Deletion is honored except where the law requires retention. Email privacy@showmetherental.com from the address you used, or use the “my data” link in any message we sent you. Requests are answered within 30 days (CCPA/GDPR-aligned).
